In today’s media rich society, everyday can be a battle against our physical insecurities, especially for women. We glorify those picture perfect instagrams of girls who can pull beauty and charm off like a dime. But I’m more intrigued by the majority everyday faces who are just trying to get by. Its easy to get put down when you realize you’ll never be as tall, pretty, or thin as the girls you see online. But just because someone doesn’t “have it all” according to societal expectations, doesn’t mean they can’t be beautiful. After all, beauty glows from your confidence and love for yourself within. 

That brings me to my friend, Ruby! She’s a cutie with a big heart. I wanted to take the opportunity of this photoshoot to really push her out of her comfort zone. Over the years, she overcame many struggles like bullying, health conditions, career changes, and a major heartbreak. Yet every time, she comes out stronger and more confident in her worth and growth as a thriving positive woman. Today, many identify her as leader and she hardly shows vulnerability. 

In contrary, I wanted to challenge her to express her feminine side that little get to see… something glamorous, flirty, sexy, and delicate yet empowering. Its a side that every girl has, but holds back to show because of their insecurities or fear of judgement. But I think its an expression that should be accepted, embraced and celebrated. Thats the beauty of glamour/boudoir photography. I love the idea of taking a normal girl and helping her see how gorgeous she is. 

Overcoming challenges is no stranger to Ruby.. so to top it off, I decided to place her in the snow at Big Bear Lake 😀 It was unthinkably freezing, but she kept a strong attitude and killllled it! I’m so proud of her for transforming into such a goddess outside of her element! <3
